Charcoal Portraits with Gary Faigin

Recently I modeled for a portraiture workshop taught by Gary Faigin, founder of Gage Academy of Art and author of The Artist's Complete Guide to Facial Expression, after hearing his simple discussion and seeing the transformation in the participating artists' work I'm excited to read this book and see how it influences my sketching. After witnessing him teach to a class including all levels of artists I'm not the least bit surprised that he had a hand in founding Gage Academy, and it's commitment to all levels and ages of artists.

Japanese Gate Dedication Ceremony

One of the class projects at Evergreen was to design a Japanese gate. Multiple classes over the years worked towards this goal. The 3rd time was a charm, and this class was able to complete the project. The gate now stands in place, marking the trail-head to the Organic Farm. You're invited to the dedication ceremony tomorrow morning at 11:30. The trail-head is off of Parking Lot B, near the Arts Annex. 

Great Sculptor/Insallation Artist - Holly Senn

Holly's produced some amazing work creating sculptures of seed pods out of discarded library books. Check it out at her website Holly Senn. I found the installation at the Brooklyn Public Library especially engaging.

Tacoma Art Museum

Last week the Tacoma Art Museum held it's annual volunteer appreciation event. I attended in hopes of meeting the volunteers that work different shifts or in different departments. This alone would have been a treat, but it was even better . . . I was presented with two awards, a Star Volunteer award and named the 2010 Open Arts Studio Standout Volunteer. I am quite honored to have my efforts acknowledged in this way, and also privileged to be working with such a dynamic museum and in such a wonderful studio. Thanks TAM.
